Georgetown For small-town vibes close by, Georgetown is about a half-hour’s drive from downtown Austin and is a great option for a day or even a few hours1. The Inner Space Caverns are some of the best-preserved caves in the state, with large rooms to explore and prehistoric animal bones on display. Go swimming or have a picnic in Blue Hole Park, or explore the shops in the historic town square. If you’re planning a spring adventure, check out the city’s Red Poppy Festival in April2. San Antonio The second-biggest city in Texas, San Antonio, is only about a 90-minute drive from Austin and is a great option for history buffs, foodies, and families. The River Walk is arguably one of the most beautiful pedestrian walkways in the state, if not the country, and a tour of the Alamo is a must for anyone who appreciates history.
